Poultry India 2026: Feed Ingredients to Look for at the Expo

23 Oct 2026    - Admin

Poultry India 2026, the 18th edition of India’s largest poultry exhibition, runs from 25 to 27 November 2026 at HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, with a Knowledge Day on 24 November. With nearly 500 companies on the Poultry India 2026 exhibitors list, it helps to know what to look for before you walk the halls, especially if your job is buying feed ingredients for a mill, an integration or a layer farm.

Feed is 65 to 75% of the cost of producing broilers and eggs, and protein is the most expensive part of the ration. With soybean meal prices high, many feed formulators are coming to Poultry India 2026 looking for reliable alternative protein sources. This guide covers the main ones, what to check, and the questions to ask suppliers at the expo.

Feed ingredients worth comparing at Poultry India 2026

Rice DDGS

Rice DDGS (distillers dried grains with solubles) is a by-product of grain-based ethanol plants. It is a cost-effective source of protein and energy for broiler and layer feed, and India’s growing ethanol capacity has made supply steadier. Ask for protein, fat and fibre on the lab report, and check that colour and smell are consistent from lot to lot.

Corn DDGS

Corn DDGS carries about 30% protein and useful energy, and is widely used to replace part of the soybean meal and maize in poultry rations. Golden colour usually signals good drying; dark, burnt-smelling material can mean lower lysine availability.

Maize gluten meal

Maize gluten meal is a concentrated protein (around 60%) from the corn wet-milling industry. It also carries natural xanthophyll pigments, which improve egg yolk colour and broiler skin colour, so it is popular with layer farms.

Rice gluten meal

Rice gluten meal is available in 45% and 70%+ protein grades. The higher grade is a dense protein source for starter and pre-starter feeds where space in the formula is tight.

Roasted guar korma

Roasted guar korma (guar meal) has about 55% protein and is a lower-cost alternative to part of the soybean meal. Roasting reduces anti-nutritional factors, so ask suppliers how the product is processed.

What to ask feed ingredient suppliers at the expo

  • Lab analysis: protein, fat, fibre, moisture and ash for the current lot, not last year’s typical figures.
  • Aflatoxin: ask for test results and the guaranteed limit. For poultry, below 20 ppb is the common benchmark.
  • Consistency: how much the analysis varies between lots, and which plants the material comes from.
  • Supply and price: availability for the November to March season, and whether contract pricing is possible.
  • Logistics: 50 kg bags or bulk, truck delivery times to your mill, and, for importers, FOB or CIF terms.
